A few minutes before the final bell, Fitzroy led by four points and it was not thought possible for Geelong to win. A grand rally, however, was made by the home team and in a scrimmage some 40 yards out from Fitzroy’s goal, H. Young, the Geelong captain, was awarded a free kick. He was equal to the occasion and steered the leather between the uprights…. The exciting finish had kept the crowd in a high state of enthusiasm. People who are not easily moved threw up their hats and sticks, and cheered and clapped until they were tired. The Geelong captain Henry Young, who played a great game, was carried in shoulder high to the dressing room, and was accorded a special ovation by the crowd.
