Peter Burns strained a sinew in his leg, and he was compelled to stand down. The loss of the veteran was a severe handicap to Geelong, as his place, right back, could not be adequately filled. Burns knows exactly the right thing to do at a critical juncture, and it was unfortunate for Geelong that they were deprived of his services in such an important match. GA June 1902 The Geelong backline proved a great one to deal with, Burns distinguishing himself again and again. “Peter the Great’’ was valiant in defence and greatly assisted his side by his marvellous kicking-in against the wind, the ball travelling fully 60 yards at times.
